Creating something to tribute The Shining was definitely on my mind for a long time. It is one of my favourite adaptations of Stephen king and remains my favourite of Kubrick's work. When I finally decided to sit down and find the time to tackle it, looking at the existing collection of shining inspired art created by friends and artists in the community, I was wondering how I'd go about offering something different.
Ultimately, I was drawn to a simple composition with a basic silhouette of Jack walking out in the snow with his axe. I wanted the actual substance of the composition to be casted from the shadow of Jack's legs, where I could find a way to incorporate the infamous patterned carpet from within the hotel and hopefully deliver something simple, effective and unique.
